CANON EOS REBEL XS

Canon EOS Rebel XS appeared in the market in 2008. In different regions it is known under the different names. In North America it is called EOS Rebel XS, in Japan EOS Kiss F, in Europe it is known as EOS 1000D.

The Rebel XS belongs to a series of Canon entry-level digital single-lens reflex cameras. It has the lightest body among digital EOS models. The camera features a number of technologies used in professional cameras of the EOS series, including DIGIC III processor, and view mode in real time. Canon EOS Rebel XS can be equipped with EF-S 18-55mm IS lens with a four-stage image stabilizer, which allows you to get great shots in low light conditions.

Like all models in the EOS series, the key components are designed and manufactured on the basis of the Canon own technology, for ensuring full compatibility and high quality image. CMOS-sensor with a resolution of 10.1 megapixels (the number of pixels is increased to produce crisp images with low noise) provides a resolution sufficient for printing pictures in A4 format. To protect the image of dust traces on the sensor the Rebel XS has an integrated cleaning system, which fights with dust in three ways: prevents the appearance of dust, repels and removes it.

As well as all digital SLR cameras of professional level the Rebel XS is equipped with a DIGIC III processor. This enables continuous shooting till complete filling of SD or SDHC memory card with the speed of up to 3 frames per second, so the number of shots is limited only by capacity of a memory card used. DIGIC III also features advanced image processing, high speed and rapid start.

For fast focusing the Rebel XS is equipped with a wide-7-point AF system, which allows to fix an object in a fraction of a second. Focusing with a central cross-type provides efficient shooting even in low light and low contrast conditions. In addition, the Rebel XS supports high-precision E-TTL II flash system, with which EOS professional models are equipped, and which accounts for the distance to the shooting object.

The weight of the Rebel XS is 0.450g. Compact and ergonomic design ensures ease of use. Bright 2.5-inch LCD allows you to instantly check the layout, clarity and focus of the received frames, which you can view together with your friends thanks to a wide viewing angle. The LCD also provides access to a fast, convenient menu, which uses tabs instead of awkward scrolling. The menu system inherited from the last models of the EOS series allows easy management of additional devices, such as Speedlite flash.

High quality images in all conditions are achieved by 12 custom functions, including Auto Lighting Optimizer that adjusts brightness and contrast during image processing, as well as improves skin tone when shooting portraits, providing accurate exposure of facial images. You can also use the system of noise reduction when shooting at slow shutter speeds at high ISO sensitivity.

While shooting with a tripod or in circumstances where the use of the viewfinder is inappropriate, you can switch to Live View mode: LCD display images with a speed of 30 frames per second. There are two AF modes available in real-time: fast autofocus, which allows you to instantly turn the mirror and activate the autofocus option, and autofocus in real time mode, which performs focusing on the basis of information about contrast (as in a compact digital camera is).

The Rebel XS features a complete firmware package with all the needed tools to control and edit images. The package includes an effective tool for converting files in RAW format - Digital Photo Professional (DPP), which fully controls image processing in RAW. This solution integrates with such camera features as Dust Delete Data, which allows determining the position of visible dust particles on the image sensor, as well as Picture Style. With the help of the included Picture Style Editor application, users can create their own custom Picture Style settings in order to precisely control image processing. The Rebel XS kit includes EOS Utility, Image/Zoom Browser and Photostitch.

The Canon Rebel XS can be considered from one side as an entry-level DSLR with easy and non-complicated controls and a 2.5-inch LCD display, but from the other side as an excellent camera featuring fast shooting and high quality photos, 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, and DIGIC III processor. In general, The Rebel XS runs well and it is an excellent choice for those who have sufficiently high demands but rather low budget.
