Connecting the Modem

NOTE: The built–in modem on the 6642 is designed only for regular analog
telephone lines. The modem may be damaged when connected to a
digital ISDN terminal or digital PBX.

NOTE: Before connecting to a PBX, consult the PBX maintenance staff or its
service company. If the electrical characteristics of your PBX are
different from those of a regular analog line, the modem will not func-
tion properly. If you connect the modem to a digital PBX, both the
modem and the PBX may be damaged.
1. Turn off the 6642.
2. Lift the cover of the modem jack located near the
LEDs and connect the end of the modem cable to the
modem jack.
3. Connect the other end of the cable to the telephone
line.
Setting Communications Information
1. In the Modem Properties dialog box, select Dialing
Properties.
2. Set each item, following the instructions on the screen.
Setting Communications Software
1. Set the COM port of the built-in modem from within
the communications software you are using (assuming
the default modem settings have not been changed).
2. Set parameters such as modem speed (baud rate) and
line type (pulse or tone dialing).

NOTE: Consult the manual or online help of the software you are using. Do
not enter a suspend mode while using communication software. Exit
other applications if you want to use fax communications.

NOTE: Communications speed varies with traffic, local telecommunications
setup and ISP (Internet Service Provider) setup.
