The Turtle Back is a hydraulic gate and door closer designed to push
a door or gate shut with adjustable hydraulic speed control. Before
installing the Turtle Back please read all instructions completely and
confirm that the door or gate operates smoothly and is in good
working order. If not, repair door or gate before mounting Turtle
Back
.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS:

The Turtle Back mounts on the hinge pin side of the door or gate
and at any height. It is best to stay about 6” from the ground.
Turtle Back works best if door or gate is flush with the door casing
or post or at most, where the gate is “set in” as much as 1”. If more
than 1”, it will be necessary to add a spacer block between the door
or gate and the Anchor Plate (Dia. 2) so the Anchor Bar (Dia. 1) is
approximately in line with the face of the door casing or gate post.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

1. Place Anchor Bar on the door or gate with Hinge Bracket

on door casing or post. (Works on left or right hand doors
by reversing hinge bracket). Align the edge of the Hinge
Bracket
with the edge of
the door casing or gate
post. (Dia. 1) Mark and
then drill a 3/16” hole in
anyone of the four Hinge
Bracket
holes and insert
and tighten one 1-1/2”
screw. If the wood post is

round, the Hinge Bracket
must be mortised into the
wood post for firm
mounting.

2. With the hinge bracket

attached and the door or
gate closed, swing and
hold the Anchor Bar
against door or gate and trace the outline of the Anchor Bar
Plate Slot
on to the door or gate. Swing back the Anchor
Bar
and mark a vertical line ¾” back from the end of the
slot. (Dia. 1) Center the Anchor Connector Plate on the ¾”
mark and slot. Mark the location of the two screws and drill
1/8” holes in the door or gate. Insert the Clevis Pin (A) into
the vertical slot in the Anchor Connector Plate (B) as shown
(Dia. 2) and attach the Anchor Connector Plate to the door
or gate with the 2 screws (C). Place two Slide Washers (D)
onto the Clevis Pin, swing the Anchor Bar over the Anchor
Connector Plate
so the Clevis Pin goes through the Anchor
bar slot, place the Steel Washer (E) onto the pin and install
the Cotter Pin (F) through the hole in the Clevis Pin.

3. Check that the Anchor bar assembly works freely without

binding by swinging open and closing your door or gate. If
OK, finish installing the 3 remaining 1- ½” screws into the
Hinge Bracket. If not, remove screws and reposition.

4. Locate the speed adjusting screw and the filler screw on the

Hydraulic-Spring Assembly (Dia. 3). They must be facing
upward and toward you as you mount the Hydraulic-Spring
Assembly
onto the Anchor Bar. Align the Hinge Knuckle in
