1 Introduction

Overview

The Storage Provisioning Tool (SPT) is a CLI-based tool that provides automation of storage
provisioning, validation, query, and repair capabilities for the StoreAll storage configurations.

NOTE:

SPT is not applicable to the StoreAll 8200 and is not supported for the IBRIX X9720.

SPT supports the following operations:

Auto-provisioning storage, based on a predefined layout.

Repairing storage configuration to the default layout.

Validating a configured storage.

Enumerating disks, volumes, and enclosures.

Deleting volumes.

Each storage layout configuration is maintained as a storage profile by SPT. The profiles are located
in the following directory:

/etc/opt/hp/platform/profiles/storage/

All storage profiles are also archived in the following directory:

/opt/hp/platform/profiles/storage/etc/

Installation

SPT is delivered as an RPM file and is bundled with the StoreAll Quick Restore DVD. It is installed
during the Quick Restore process. The tool is installed by default on each server node, and is
located in the /opt/hp/platform/bin directory.

Provisioning best practices

CAUTION:

Be cautious when attempting any storage configuration changes. If improperly used,

such changes can result in storage I/O performance degradation or even data loss.

HP recommends the following best practices before performing a storage reconfiguration:

Use the SPT tool only for storage provisioning or a repair task.

Ensure that volumes are sufficiently backed up before a storage configuration change.

Perform a dry run before completing an autoProvision or repair task. The dry run
simulates the task and reports potential configuration changes after the task has completed.
A dry run does not cause any storage configuration changes.
