Installing Storage Mirroring Reporting Center
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center is installed separately from Storage Mirroring. The installation provides
both server and client reporting components. The server component provides the data collection and
monitoring engine and stores the collected information within a SQL Server environment. The client
component provides the configuration, graphical reporting, and monitoring capabilities.
Before you install Storage Mirroring Reporting Center, ensure that you have a username and password
created that meet the permission requirements described in “ Permissions ” on page 10.
To install the Storage Mirroring Reporting Center Server, launch the installation wizard. Follow the prompts
to install Storage Mirroring Reporting Center.
In order for WMI to collect server information, DCOM must be turned on. The following registry string
value is used to enable or disable DCOM on all operating systems. Changes will be applied after you
restart the operating system.

Storage Mirroring Reporting Center services
If Storage Mirroring Reporting Center has been successfully installed, then you should see the following
services running in the Windows Service Control Manager. All of these services should be running at all
times.
• SMRC Analysis Engine —This process analyzes data that has been gathered by Storage Mirroring
Reporting Center and generates alerts when certain conditions occur.
• SMRC Collector —This process is used to gather data from Storage Mirroring servers. All data is
forwarded to the SMRC Listener process.
• SMRC Controller —This is the main configuration and controlling process of Storage Mirroring Reporting
Center. If this process is not running, then all other processes will not be able to carry out their regular
operations.
• SMRC Listener —This process receives data from the SMRC Collector and logs it to the database.
• SMRC Reporter —This process is used to generate reports when run in the Storage Mirroring Reporting
Center GUI.
To start up and shut down the Storage Mirroring Reporting Center processes in a Windows environment,
use the Windows Service Manager to stop and start each of the services.
Getting started
After verifying the system requirements as described in “ Requirements ” on page 9 and installing Storage
Mirroring Reporting Center, you can perform the following to quickly and easily configure and use Storage
Mirroring Reporting Center:
• “ Adding a Storage Mirroring server to be monitored ” on page 11
• “ Running reports ” on page 12
• “ Viewing alerts ” on page 12
Adding a Storage Mirroring server to be monitored
After you have installed Storage Mirroring Reporting Center, you must configure it to monitor your Storage
Mirroring servers.
In order to monitor a Storage Mirroring server, you must define it in the Navigation tree as a “Node” in the
user interface. To set up a Storage Mirroring server:
1. In the Navigation tree, select the Storage Mirroring Servers node.
2. Right-click the node and select Configuration, New, New Node . The Server Properties dialog box appears.
