General Installation Notes:

Please read these instructions completely before beginning the installation.

If you have any questions please call.

Before beginning the installation, disconnect the negative battery cable and

use wheel chocks to block the vehicle's wheels.

APPLICATION INFORMATION: The Lokar Shifter Knob Adapter is designed
to allow the use of most aftermarket shifter knobs and eliminate the
need for a push button shifter knob on a Lokar Automatic Transmission
Shifter. The Lokar Shifter Knob Adapter is available for either a 3/8"-16
or a 3/8"-24 thread shift knob. If you are installing a 3/8"-24 adapter,
the design allows for the original Lokar knob to be reinstalled without
modification. (This is especially helpful when the shift pattern is
required to be on the knob in order to pass a safety inspection.) If you
are installing a 3/8"-16 adapter, you can still revert back to the original
Lokar knob by removing the adapter kit.

Before beginning the installation, verify that the Lokar Shifter Knob Adapter
you have purchased is the correct one to match the thread pitch on your
replacement knob.

Step 1: Make sure the shifter is in the Park position. Using a 9/16"

wrench, loosen the jam nut on the shifter lever. Unscrew both
the knob and jam nut and remove them from the shifter lever.
These parts will not be reused in this installation. Save them for
future use if you decide to change back to the Lokar knob.

Step 3: Install the inner sleeve with the two flats towards the bottom. Run it

down until the inner sleeve lightly touches the jam nut. Back off the
inner sleeve so that the small area between the two slots is aligned
with the center of the vehicle and facing towards the rear. (This may
change later in order to properly align the knob.)

Fig. 4 Spin the

jam nut upward until it contacts the inner sleeve and tighten these
two parts together using two 7/16" wrenches. Lightly coat the inner
sleeve with the silicone grease supplied with the kit.

Step 4: Slide the outer adapter housing over the inner sleeve and jam nut.

Align the two set screw holes with the two slots on the inner sleeve.
Without moving the outer adapter housing, install the #10-32 x 1/8"
stainless set screws. Lightly screw the stainless set screws into the
outer adapter housing until they barely touch the back wall of the
slots on the inner sleeve and stop. Once they touch, loosen each
stainless set screw equally 1/4 turn at a time until the outer adapter
housing slides up and down freely.

Fig. 5

Step 5: Pull up on the outer adapter housing and hold it at the top of its

travel. Install the 1" long socket set screw

with the socket end facing

DOWN into the top of the outer adapter housing. Finger tighten the 1"
long set screw until it touches the top of the black inner shifter cable
and stop. The 1" long socket set screw should not be putting any
pressure on the black inner shifter cable.

Fig. 6.

Step 6: Install the knob onto the socket set screw and tighten it against

the outer adapter housing.

Fig. 7 If the knob is not oriented in the

desired direction, determine how far it needs to be rotated (using
the shortest direction) to reach the desired position. Loosen the two
stainless set screws in the outer adapter housing and remove the
assembled knob and outer adapter housing from the lever. Loosen
the jam nut and rotate the inner sleeve the predetermined distance
and direction. Tighten the jam nut, and repeat

Step 4.

Step 7: With the adapter and new knob installed, the entire knob will move

instead of just the button. The knob can simply be pushed down
when changing gears.

Fig. 8 Otherwise, the shifter should operate

exactly as it did before the installation of this kit. Check that all of
the lockout positions are functioning properly. If this is not the case,
please verify that the socket set screw was not tightened too much
in

Step 5.

IMPORTANT! When installing a shifter knob that has to be clocked in a
particular direction, it is necessary to fully assemble the knob adapter and
knob and then determine which direction to rotate the inner sleeve and jam
nut. In some cases it may take two or three tries to get the knob in the exact
position desired. Once adjusted, reassemble following the original steps.

Note: If all the lockout positions are functioning properly at this point,
the adapter has been installed correctly. If there are any other problems,
the shifter may have already been out of adjustment. Should the shifter
need adjustment, please refer to the original instructions that were
provided with the Lokar shifter.

WARNING! Be sure that the shifter features; i.e., the neutral safety
switch and gear lockouts, are functioning properly before attempting to
start the vehicle.
