1. Description
The cubes in this set allow the densities of various
materials to be determined.
The set contains seven cubes made of a variety of
materials in a storage container. The cubes are made
of aluminium (Al), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), copper (Cu),
brass (Ms), wood and PVC. Metal cubes are labelled as
appropriate.

3. Sample experiment
Determination of the densities of solid bodies
To determine the density a set of scales will be neces-
sary:
1 Electronic scales 600 g

• Use the scale to determine the mass of a cube.
• Calculate the density of the cubes using the
equation

Since the volume of each cube is 1 cm³, the mass in
grams is equivalent in magnitude to the density.
