is neutral (grounded). If the bulb does
not glow, the screw is not grounded,
the wide slot is “hot”, and the narrow
slot is neutral.

Receptacles
Insert the first probe
into the round (neutral) hole and the
second probe into either rectangular
slot. If the bulb glows, that slot is “hot”.
Then move the second probe to the
other rectangular slot. If the bulb glows,
that slot is also “hot”. Finally, insert the
probes into both rectangular slots. The
bulb will glow more brightly to indicate
the presence of 220VAC.
