NOTE: The device file types (logical volumes, volume groups, HDLM devices, and raw devices)
are displayed as follows:
• Logical volumes: LogicalVolume
• Volume groups: VolumeGroup
• HDLM devices: RawDevice (HDLM) or RawDevice (HDLM, Partitioned)
• Raw devices: RawDevice or RawDevice (Partitioned)

7-5 Expanding a File System
A file system can be expanded by using the Expand File System dialog boxes, which include Step 1 of 2
(Select Volume) and Step 2 of 2 (Summary of Changes). Once a file system has been added, a new volume
can be added and the file system can be expanded.
WARNING! Make sure that you specify a unique port address for each port of storage devices in the same
zone. If the same port addresses exist in the same zone, the OS cannot identify the ports and may not
recognize the device files. In such a state, if you add a device file, add a file system, or expand a file system
from Provisioning Manager, the device file cannot be recognized and an error occurs.
In the following cases, file systems cannot be expanded:
• When the access privilege of the logged-in user is Guest or Local Guest.
• If an unsupported volume manager is used in the file system.
• If an unsupported file system is used by the host.
For a list of supported volume managers and file systems, see section 7-3 .
NOTE: You cannot use the volume manager to expand the file system where the software RAID has been
configured. To configure RAID, use the functionality of the subsystem, not the volume manager.
To expand a file system, take the following steps:
1. Select Volume (see section 7-5-1 ). Select a volume from the candidates. All volumes that the user can
choose from are displayed. Select an appropriate volume.
CAUTION: A volume cannot be used to expand a file system when any of the following conditions
hold:
• The volume manager is using the volume on a host where the Device Manager agent has been
installed.
• The volume is mounted on a host where the Device Manager agent has been installed.
• The volume is being used as a command device.
• The volume is being used as an S-VOL for Continuous Access XP.
