Managing V-VOLs
This section describes the procedures for managing V-VOLs. When you create new V-VOLs, it is necessary
to change the setting for the V-VOL as shown in section “
Changing the V-VOL Information
after performing the steps in section “

the V-VOL with the pool. You cannot use a V-VOL for XP Thin Provisioning unless the steps in section

Creating V-VOLs
To create new V-VOLs:

If the mode is already changed to Modify, you can skip this step. For information on how to
change the mode, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Remote Web Console User’s Guide.

Right-click XP Thin Provisioning in the V-VOL group tree of the V-VOL window.
A pop-up menu is displayed.

Notes:
• You can enter only a whole number from 0 to 63,231 in the Copy of V-VOL Groups text
box. However, when external volume groups for External Storage or V-VOL groups for XP
Snapshot are created, the available V-VOL groups for XP Thin Provisioning will be fewer than
the maximum number according to the number of external volume groups and V-VOL groups
for XP Snapshot. For example, if 10 external volume groups are created for External Storage,
you can enter only a whole number under 63,221.
• If you create multiple V-VOL groups at a time, all the V-VOLs that are going to be registered
in each V-VOL group will have the same emulation type and capacity.
8.
Click Next.
The Create V-VOL wizard dialog box (1) (
on page 50) is displayed.
