To define or operate XP Continuous Access Synchronous pairs in TrueCopy Open/MF consistency
groups, install the XP Continuous Access Synchronous software. A TrueCopy Open/MF consistency
group and an XP Continuous Access synchronous consistency group described in the HP
XP24000/XP20000 Continuous Access Software User's Guide behave the same. For more
information about XP Continuous Access Synchronous consistency groups, see the HP
XP24000/XP20000 Continuous Access Software User's Guide.
You must use the same consistency group number when XP Continuous Access synchronous pairs
and TrueCopy for Mainframe synchronous pairs are registered in the same TrueCopy Open/MF
consistency group. Therefore, you must decide beforehand the consistency group number to be
used in RAID Manager and Business Continuity Manager. Specify an unused consistency group
number when creating a new TrueCopy Open/Mainframe consistency group. Before performing
any operations on the combined consistency group, define the pairs specifying the group number
in RAID Manager and in the Copy Group Attributes (TC) window of Business Continuity Manager.
For more information about the Copy Group Attributes (TC) window, see HP Business Continuity
Manager Software User Guide.
TrueCopy for Mainframe Async Consistency Group Operations
TrueCopy for Mainframe Async consistency groups enable update sequence consistency to be
maintained across a group of volumes. The R-VOLs of the pairs in a consistency group must be
located within one RCU (n-to-1 requirement). The TrueCopy for Mainframe Asynchronous consistency
group operations include:

•
“Group Consistency Time” (page 32)

Group Options
TrueCopy for Mainframe Async provides the following options for each consistency group: Timer
Type, Copy Pending timeout, and RCU Ready Timeout. These options are selected when you add
a group. To change the timeout options of a group, you must suspend all pairs in the group first.
To change the Timer Type option, you must release all pairs. The Timer Type option Copy Pending
timeout option must be the same for all MCUs which contain M-VOLs in the group. The RCU Ready
timeout option can be different at each MCU if desired.
Timer Type. This group option determines how the MCU will acquire the time-stamp for the TrueCopy
for Mainframe Asynchronous recordsets:
•
System. When the System timer option is selected, the MCU acquires the time-stamp information
for each recordset as follows. When a TrueCopy for Mainframe Asynchronous pair is
established, the MCU reports state-change-interrupt (SCI) to all hosts. The host then issues a
series of sense group commands to determine the device status change, and the MCU returns
