problem areas. The Server Availability report in the HTML format consolidates the information on availability
of servers at any point in time.

Structure

The performance monitoring service is designed to run on a separate middle-tier server (analysis server),
which also serves as the HP Insight Control console server and performs the bulk of the processing. The
monitored servers are only required to run the standard HP Management Agents and WBEM Providers,
installed as part of the HP ProLiant Support Pack. Insight Control performance management gathers information
about the monitored servers from the Management Agents using SNMP in much the same way as HP SIM.
Also, the Insight Control performance management gathers information about the monitored servers from
the WBEM Providers using WBEM protocol for WBEM discovered server.

Both functionality and performance data of performance management can be accessed from a client system
using the Internet Explorer, in which an applet runs to display the information.

Database software for the analysis server is installed for storing and cataloging data. The database requires
Windows authentication to be set from HP SIM. For more information about setting authentication levels with
HP SIM, refer to the

HP Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide.

Features

Insight Control performance management offers the following support and management options:

Supports monitoring servers running Windows, VMWare ESX, Red Hat Linux or SUSE LINUX.

Displays individual CPU statistics.

Provides suggestions for every bottleneck situation.

Provides a concise overview of configuration anomalies that could impact performance.

Provides detailed information on the subsystem that causes performance constraints, enabling pinpointed
upgrades to economically extend the useful life of server.

Provides a summary report containing both performance profile and detailed server inventory.
