Pull rod (3) and attached parts straight out of
the tube.

NOTE: It may be necessary to apply heat to break
the bond of the sealant between locknut (11) and
rod (3) before the piston can be removed. Refer
to paragraph 9.2a.

Remove locknut (11), piston (2), and gland (4)
from the rod (3).

Remove rod wiper (5), Z-seal (6), and O-ring
(7) from the gland.

8.

Remove O-ring (8) and crown seal (9) from
the piston.

Cleaning

1.

Discard all seals and lockwire. Replace with a
complete new seal kit.

2.

Clean all metal parts in an approved cleaning
solvent such as trichlorethylene. Be sure to
carefully clean all cavities and grooves.

d. Inspection, Repair and Replacement

1.

Check that rod (3, Fig. 9.19) is straight and
undamaged. If the rod is bent or damaged,
install new rod.

2.

Inspect inside of tube (1) for scoring and other
damage. If there is any damage to the tube,
replace it with a new tube.
