1. Connect the “SERIAL PORT OUT” to an available direct connect port on the Paging Terminal. The
“Paging System Direct Connect Cable” (if supplied) is configured for direct connection to the Motorola
People Finder Encoder/Transceiver “EIA RS232C Port”. For other paging terminals see manuals to
determine required cable configurations.
NOTE: Pin outs for the API-8/232 “SERIAL PORT OUT” must match the pin assignments for the paging
system.

1. Locate and connect a normal analogue telephone line to the RJ11 connection marked “LINE”.
2. Check the LED marked “LINE”. If dial tone voltage is present the LED will be illuminated.
NOTE: The unit must be connected to a single analogue telephone line or extension that is DTMF
capable (POTS).
