ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) Originals can be placed in the ADF and scanned one
at a time automatically.
Automatic E-Mail Printing Software application that automatically prints incoming e-mail
messages on the DCP. (Instructions are on the CD-ROM).
beeper volume Volume setting for the beep when you press a key or make an error.
Brother Control Center A window that enables you to click on a button to choose the type of
scanning operation you want to perform. If you set up the Control Center window to load each
time you boot your PC, this window will appear each time you place an original in the ADF.
Brother Resource Manager Th e Brother Resource Manager application must be running for you
to use your DCP with your Windows ® computer. Multi-Function Link ® Pro Suite software and the
MFL Pro Suite Printer Driver automatically load the Resource Manager, as needed. The Resource
Manager allows the single bi-directional Parallel port on the machine to simulate a Communications
port for scanning
and to simulate a Parallel port for Windows ® GDI printing.
Contrast A setting that compensates for dark or light originals, by lightening dark documents
or darkening light originals.
gray scale The shades of gray available for copying photographs.
LCD (liquid crystal display) The display screen on the DCP that shows interactive messages
during On-Screen Programming and defaults to the date and time when the DCP is idle.
Menu mode Programming mode for changing the settings of your DCP.
Multi-Function Link ® Pro Suite software Turns your DCP into a printer and a scanner and
enables PC faxing using the DCP.
OCR (optical character recognition) The bundled ScanSoft ® TextBridge ® software
application converts an image of text to text that you can edit.
Photo A copy mode resolution setting that uses varying shades of gray for the best
representation of photographs.
scanning The process of sending an electronic image of an original paper document into your
computer.
ScanSoft ® PaperPort ® for Brother Document management application where you can view
received faxes and scanned originals.
ScanSoft ® TextBridge ® Optional Character Recognition (OCR) software that converts a
scanned image of text into text you can edit in your word processing application.
temporary settings You can select certain options for each copy you make without changing
the default settings. Temporary copy settings remain for 45 seconds after copying so you
won’t have to set them again for additional copies.
TrueType fonts The fonts that are used in the Windows ® operating systems. If you install the
Brother TrueType fonts, more types of fonts will be available for Windows ® applications.
