Questions and Answers

What is SR Adoro Thermo Guard?

SR Adoro Thermo Guard is a diethylene glycol- and water-based
paste. The paste, which is applied to all exposed metal parts,
provides a thermally absorbing (cooling) effect, thereby minimizing
the internal tension at the interface between metal and SR Adoro.

For what restorations does SR Adoro Thermo Guard have to
be used?

SR Adoro Thermo Guard has to be used for all metal-supported
restorations. Additionally, SR Adoro Thermo Guard is used in combi-
nation dentures to cover the resin saddles, as well as for the repair
of metal-supported restorations.

Why does SR Adoro Thermo Guard have to be used?

SR Adoro is not a purely light-curing, but a light-/heat-curing
veneering composite. Only through tempering with light and heat
(thermal treatment) does SR Adoro obtain its optimum material
properties and surface quality. Due to the high tempering tempera-
ture of 104 °C (219 °F), the CTE values, e.g. of the ceramic, play a
decisive role. The CTEs of composite and alloy strongly differ (alloys:
approx. 13.5 –16.5 x 10

-6

/K; SR Adoro: 60 x 10

-6

/K).

The method with SR Adoro Thermo Guard enables even heating,
tempering and cooling phases during the tempering with light and
heat. In this way, the risk that microscopic hairline fractures develop
is reduced.

What is the action principle of SR Adoro Thermo Guard?

With the application of SR Adoro Thermo Guard on all exposed
metal parts, the metal cannot heat up to the same extent as the
ambient temperature and the veneering composite itself. The heat-
dampening (cooling) effect of SR Adoro Thermo Guard helps
minimize internal stress at the interface between the metal and
SR Adoro. This, in turn, reduces the risk of hairline fractures.

What happens if SR Adoro Thermo Guard is not used?

If it is not used, even heating, tempering and cooling phases do not
take place due to the different CTE values of the materials as well as
the different heat conductivity (metal = good heat conductor,
composite = poor heat conductor and/or insulator). Stress may
occur, which may manifest itself after light/heat tempering or later.
This may result in microscopic hairline fractures.

Does SR Adoro Thermo guard also have to be used for the
repeated tempering of metal-supported restorations?

SR Adoro Thermo Guard has to be applied before every final and
repeated tempering cycle of metal-supported restorations for
25 minutes at 104 °C (219 °F) in the Lumamat 100 or Targis Power
Upgrade.

Does SR Adoro Thermo guard also have to be used for
veneered zirconium oxide frameworks?

No. SR Adoro Thermo Guard has to be used for all metal-supported
restorations.

How can hairline fractures in composite restorations be
prevented?

Always observe the curing depths, build up in small increments, and
always observe the indicated precuring times. Separate the bridge
units in the proximal areas, similar as with other light-/heat-curing
and heat-/pressure-curing veneering composites. If such hairline
fractures develop nonetheless, they can be repaired in the usual
manner as described in the section on "Subsequent Adjustments".

For what other purposes should SR Adoro Thermo Guard be
used?

SR Adoro Thermo Guard is used to cover denture saddles during the
completion of combination dentures as well as repairs.
SR Adoro Thermo Guard protects denture saddles (thermoplastic)
and denture teeth from deformation during light/heat tempering in
the Lumamat 100 or Targis Power Upgrade.

What are the connector dimensions for metal-supported
bridges?

The connector dimensions for bridges must be at least 3 x 3 mm.

How must SR Link be stored?

Store SR Link in the refrigerator (2–8 °C / 36–46 °F).

On what alloys can SR Link be used?

– On alloys that contain up to 90% gold, palladium and platinum
– On alloys that contain up to 50% copper and/or silver
– On base metal alloys
– On titanium alloys

Can SR Link be used on high-gold and copper-free bio alloys
and electroformed (galvano) frameworks?

Given the high precious metal content (Au, Pt, Pd, Ag) of bio alloys
and the fine gold content (99.9%) of galvano frameworks SR Link
cannot be used.

What needs to be given particular attention during blasting
(conditioning)?

A grain size of 80–100 microns for the Al

2

O

3

has to be used. The

blasting pressure depends on the alloy used. Use max. 1 bar (15 psi)
for ZrO

2

frameworks.
