Steps for Restoring the Storage Management Appliance
If your Storage Management Appliance has a catastrophic failure, the basic steps
for restoring the SMA and bringing it back into operation are as follows:

Restore the SMA software by using an appropriate version of the
QuickRestore CD to do one of the following:
— Restore the SMA to software version 2.1 (recommended)
— Restore the SMA to its factory-installed state
■
Reinstall any optional HP storage management applications.
■
Install the Storage Management Appliance software v2.1 update, if necessary.
■
Reinstall optional third-party backup software on the Storage Management
Appliance if used to complete the most recent system backup.
■
Restore the database and application files from a recent v2.1 backup. You can
only restore from a backup of the current SMA software version.
These steps are further explained in the other sections of this appendix.
To complete this restore process you must have a recent backup of the v2.1
system. You can use the Storage Management Appliance backup feature on the
Maintenance page or use another backup application to back up the system. See
the Storage Management Appliance Software Using Backup Software Application

If you use a backup product that produces an up-to-date and stable backup image
of your entire SMA system, you can use the image to restore a failed SMA instead
of using the recovery procedures described in this section. See the Storage
Management Appliance Software Using Backup Software Application Notes for
complete information.
Caution:
If your network is vulnerable to viruses, HP recommends that you
remove the SMA from the network during the restore, upgrade, and
installation procedures. Version 2.1 of the SMA software includes all known
Microsoft patches; therefore, you can reconnect to the network after
upgrading to v2.1.
