Figure 2 Creation and operation of Cnt Ac-S pairs and Cnt Ac-S Z pairs by specifying consistency
group

If the split command (Pairsplit-r or YKSUSPND) is issued to a consistency group of Cnt Ac-S
pair, and if the I/O processing on some volumes in the consistency group has not finished, the
split operation to the Cnt Ac-S volume pairs is executed for maintaining the data consistency after
the I/O processing and the transfer of the data to the S-VOLs have finished.

The following figure shows the split operation for volume B finishes after the I/O processing and
the transfer of the data to the S-VOL. The I/O processing on volume B in the consistency group
has not completed when the split command is issued.

Figure 3 Splitting processing when split command is issued and there are some volumes in the
consistency group during the I/O processing (Cnt Ac-S volume)

If the split command (Pairsplit-r or YKSUSPND) is issued to a consistency group of Cnt Ac-S
Z pair, and if the I/O processing on some volumes in the consistency group has not finished, the
split operation to the Cnt Ac-S Z volume pair is executed for maintaining the data consistency after
the track processing of the volume that is in the I/O processing and the data transfer to R-VOL
have finished.
