Installing the NLD

The Vinten Radamec NLD unit can be easily attached in an appropriate position on the head, using the self
adhesive ‘velcro’ strips on the back of the case. Ensure that the chosen position allows all necessary cables to
connect without snagging or interfering with camera movement.

The Vinten Radamec NLD can control both serial and analog lenses. The type of lens affects external cable
connections (see Lens cable options on page 18) and the NLD calibration time.

To control serial lenses, proceed as follows:

1. Connect the NLD serial data out (5) to the lens serial control connector.

2. Power up the lens.

3. Power up the NLD unit by connecting the power/data cable from the head to the power/data port (6)

on the NLD.

Once powered up, the system is immediately ready for operation.

To control analog lenses, proceed as follows:

1. For lenses without serial control, connect the NLD zoom (3) and focus out (4) ports to the demand

connectors on the lens hand controls.

2. Power up the lens.

3. Power up the NLD unit by connecting the power/data cable from the head to the power/data port (6)

on the NLD.

4. Wait 45-seconds for the NLD to auto-calibrate the lens.

The system is now ready for operation.

Resetting the NLD

In the unlikely event that the NLD becomes unresponsive, the unit can be reset by removing and reconnecting
the power/data cable (6).

CAUTION! Always power the lens BEFORE the NLD to ensure that calibration is not affected.

CAUTION! Do NOT interrupt the lens calibration process—the results will be

unpredictable.

Note:

Calibration is quicker when the NLD is connected to a non-positional lens, as the lens
does not have to move slowly to measure and store friction values along the lens travel.
