Choose the type of shutter used for photographs.

uto]

The camera chooses the shutter type automatically
according to shutter speed. The electronic front-
curtain shutter is used to reduce blur caused by
camera shake at slow shutter speeds.

[Mechanical
shutter
]

The camera uses the mechanical shutter for all
photos.

[Electronic front-
curtain shutter
]

The camera uses the electronic front-curtain shutter
for all photos.

“Mechanical shutter”

[Mechanical shutter] is not available with some lenses.

The electronic front-curtain shutter

The fastest shutter speed available when [Electronic front-curtain shutter]
is selected is 1/2000 s.

Custom Settings menu

If you select [O

n], you can extend the shutter speed when shooting in

mode M up to 900 seconds (15 minutes). This is useful when you want to
shoot with the shutter open for extended periods, such as for
astronomical photography.

To use extended shutter speeds, choose [On] and select a shutter
speed of 60 s or slower. When shooting starts, the control panel
switches to indicate that the shutter is open.
