Setting Up the System

Generally, whenever you change your system configuration (specimen, load cell, fixturing), you should
re-perform each task on the Explorer tab using the new system configuration.

Because the steps on the Explorer tab are designed to produce optimal performance only for the exact
system configuration that was used when steps were completed, altering your system configuration without
re-performing all the tasks on the Explorer tab may result in undesired performance when running tests.
This is especially true if any of the following events occur:

The mass of your load cell changes.

The fixturing changes substantially.

The tuning parameters need to be changed.

A new specimen with different dimensions, material properties, or fatigue properties is installed.

The test is moved to a different machine.

The machine is repaired (cables, connectors, boards, and cards are replaced).

The load cell is recalibrated.

The MTS TestSuite software is upgraded to a newer version.

The test procedure is modified.

The test is interrupted and limits are tripped for displacement, load, acceleration, or strain, and the
material or fatigue properties of the specimen have changed.

In the following scenarios, you may not need to re-perform some steps on the Explorer tab:

If you are only changing specimens (not the fixturing or load cell), you may not need to re-perform the
"Install Fixturing" or "Compensate for Fixturing" steps because they are typically performed prior to
installing a specimen.

If the load cell is mounted on the bottom, some adjustments (such as compensate for fixturing) may
be unnecessary.

If you are installing a new specimen, you do not need to re-perform any tasks if the properties (mass
and stiffness) of the new specimen are similar to the previous specimen.

Setup Tasks in the Explorer

The New Specimen category contains the following elements that, when completed in order, step you
through the process of setting up your system to run a test.

1.

Install Fixturing

2.

Compensate for Fixturing

3.
