If the handset wheel control is active, you may not be able to turn specimen protection off until
you press the exclusive control toggle button on the frame-mounted control to release control to
the software.

Installing Specimen with Protection On

After you have installed the fixturing (Install Fixturing) and completed acceleration compensation
(Compensate for Fixturing), click Install Specimen on the Explorer tab to continue preparing for your
test.

Note:

Prerequisite: The crosshead and actuator should already be positioned in approximately the correct
location for specimen installation before turning on Specimen Protection.

Recommended

:

It is best practice to not make actuator adjustments in Stable Displacement when the specimen
is installed and Specimen Protection is off. When you turn Specimen Protection off, the
active control mode automatically switches to Stable Displacement. When
Specimen Protection is off, even small adjustments you make to the actuator in Stable
Displacement can cause large forces to be applied to the specimen.

1. In the Maximum Tension and Maximum Compression boxes, enter the values and units of

measurement for the maximum forces to be applied to the actuator as you insert your specimen.

2. If you want to turn off specimen limits when Specimen Protection is on (so you do not inadvertently

trigger them while installing the specimen in the specimen protection mode), select the check box for
Turn off specimen limits when protecting the specimen.

3. Switch the state of actuator power to Power Low.

4. Click Turn Specimen Protection On.
