19. Secure the NEW tie rod assembly onto the right

front axle using the NEW washer and self-lock-
ing nut. Torque the NEW self-locking nut between
139 - 165 in./lbs.

20. Repeat STEPS 17-18 to attach the NEW tie rod

assembly to the left front axle.

21. Secure the NEW TOP and BOTTOM bearing

housing onto the front frame assembly.

22. Slide the NEW BOTTOM bearing and the NEW

BOTTOM bushing onto the steering shaft.

NOTE: Before installing the NEW steering shaft, be
sure it is facing toward the tie rods (FIGURE 6).

23. Slide the NEW steering shaft with the NEW BOT-

TOM bearing and the NEW BOTTOM bushing
through the mounting hole in the front frame as-
sembly.

24. Slide the NEW TOP bearing over the top of the

NEW steering shaft and into the NEW TOP bear-
ing housing.

CAUTION

DO NOT overtighten the TOP bearing bush-
ing. Otherwise, damage to the tie rod assem-
bly may occur.

25. Secure the NEW TOP bearing bushing by screwing

it into the NEW TOP bearing housing. Torque the
NEW TOP bearing bushing between 26 - 39 in./lbs.

CAUTION

DO NOT overtighten the bearing gap nut. Oth-
erwise, damage to the tie rod assembly may
occur.

26. Secure the NEW bearing gap nut by screwing it

into the steering shaft. Torque the NEW bearing
gap nut between 217 - 243 in./lbs.

27. Reinstall the small tie rod. Refer to REMOVING/IN-

STALLING SMALL TIE RODS in this procedure of
this manual.

28. Reinstall the large tie rod. Refer to REMOVING/

INSTALLING LARGE TIE RODS in this procedure
of this manual.

29. Reinstall the front shock absorbers. Refer to RE-

MOVING/INSTALLING FRONT SHOCK AB-
SORBERS in PROCEDURE 11 of this manual.

30. Return the front frame assembly to the upright

position.

31. Reinstall the front wheels. Refer to REMOVING/IN-

STALLING THE FRONT WHEELS in PROCEDURE
9 of the Owner’s Manual, part number 1090132.

32. Reinstall the front shroud assembly. Refer to RE-

MOVING/INSTALLING FRONT SHROUD AS-
SEMBLY in PROCEDURE 5 of this manual.

33. Reinstall the tiller assembly. Refer to REMOV-

ING/INSTALLING TILLER ASSEMBLY in PRO-
CEDURE 5 of this manual.
