3 Operating the autoloader

The autoloader can be operated by the following methods:

Operator control panel - operate manually to insert and eject cartridges and to unload magazines

Host backup software - the SCSI bus connects the autoloader to the host server and the backup

software. You can perform any functions contained in the backup software.

This chapter provides an overview of the operator control panel, OCP, and information about tape

cartridges and magazines. See

Autoloader administration

” on page 35 for instructions on using the

OCP.

Operator control panel (OCP) overview

The front panel includes a 2-line by 16-character, green backlit liquid crystal display (LCD). There are

four function keys located to the right of the LCD: Cancel, Enter, Previous, and Next. Above the

LCD screen are four LEDs which are: Ready, Clean, Attention, and Error. This panel provides

everything you need to monitor autoloader status and control all of its functions.
The following functions are available through the OCP:

Robotic and tape drive firmware version reporting

Autoloader and drive parameters configuration

Robotic and tape drive serial number reporting

Critical component status reporting

Critical component failure status

Moving cartridges to and from any location

Access to detailed error information

Clean tape drive functionality

Inventory reporting

Reset autoloader robotic defaults

Operator control panel buttons

The OCP displays a scrolling menu that lets you access information and execute commands using the four

buttons as detailed in

Table 5

.

Cancel

Cancels the current menu option, returns

to the previous menu level, or returns to

the Home screen.

Enter

Executes the current menu or selects the

current option displayed on the LCD

screen.

Previous

Selects the previous item or value in the

currently displayed menu.

Next

Selects the next item or value in the

currently displayed menu.
