6.19 Operating procedure for setting a dome/receiver

How to proceed:
1. Enable the “Setup Telemetry” FUNCTION (see § 4.2.4.5 - Functions, page 35).
2. Make sure the device to be installed is among those compatible with the keyboard (see § 4.2.3.2.2 -

Protocol – Baud rate, page 26 and the paragraphs from § 6.3 - ELBEX Dome, page 80 onwards).

3. Install the device as instructed in its installation handbook.
4. Consult the specific sections in this handbook concerning how to make the connections and read any

relevant notes on particular settings for the device to be controlled (for example: protocol, baud rate, etc).

5. For the device to be controlled, configure the physical address of the device so that it is different from all

other devices connected on the same RS485 line.

6. Connect one of the two telemetry connectors on the keyboard to the unit (dome/receiver) as instructed.
7. Configure the keyboard with the same protocol and baud rate as the unit to be controlled, taking note of

which telemetry connector (A or B) has been used to connect the device (see § 4.2.3.2 - Telemetry, page
25
).
If these parameters are configured incorrectly, communication between the keyboard and the devices will
be impossible.

8. Exit keyboard setup mode and select the camera number corresponding to the address setting for the

connected dome/receiver.

9. Operate the joystick to make sure the typical PAN/TILT/ZOOM controls are recognised by the controlled

device. Make sure the dome stops the movement in progress when the joystick is released.
In some systems a number of faults could be caused by the RS485 line. In this case try the following:

do not terminate the RS485 line at either end

terminate the RS485 line only at the dome end

terminate the RS485 line only at the keyboard end

terminate the RS485 line at both ends.

If there are still communication problems after carefully terminating the RS485 line, as well
as the two RS485A and RS485B connections, make an additional third connection between
the keyboard chassis (red cable in the Rjjack) and the chassis of the connected device.

10. Consult the corresponding section for the controls available for the specific device to be connected and for

whether it is possible to carry out setup directly at the keyboard. (see § 6.1.5 - Layout of the configuration
menus, page 76
).
