Graphic Frames

Matrix sign types (Galaxy
and SunSpot) have a second
frame type available called
a graphic frame. Graphic
frames display bitmap files
(*.bmp) on the sign.

By default, a new frame is a
text frame unless it is
copied from an existing
graphic frame. To change it
to a graphic frame, click on
the down arrow next to
Frame Type. Select
Graphic. Note: When
Graphic Frame is selected, a verification window will appear. Click on [

YES

] to continue. The

name and path of the current bitmap appears in the Bitmap File box.

5.8.1 Editing a Bitmap

Initially the graphic frame will be blank. To create an image or modify an existing
bitmap, click on [

EDIT

]. The bitmap is automatically loaded into Windows Paint . To

create a bitmap using a program other than Paint, simply close Paint, and then open
the desired program.

Make the desired changes using the Paint program. Once you have finished, save the
bitmap, then exit Paint. The Venus 1500 program automatically appears with the
changed bitmap in the graphic frame.

Notes:

=

The pixel dimensions of the bitmap
must always match the matrix size of
the sign. i.e. a 32x104 Galaxy matrix
will display bitmaps with a pixel
width of 104 and height of 32. (In
Paint, select the Options pull-down
menu, then Attributes.)

=

Bitmaps for tri-color signs will be able to only display red, yellow, green and
black. If another color is selected in Paint, the nearest acceptable tri-color
shade is used. For example, items drawn with blue will appear black. Items
drawn using magenta appear red.

=

Bitmaps for monochrome signs can only display red and black. When creating
or modifying the image in Paint, colors may be applied similarly to that for a
tri-color, however once the image is imported into the Venus 1500 message
editor, all colors appear as red.
