Counters & Timers

C-8

C.7 Example

In this example, we will create a file named “Summer” containing one counter and one timer
for a Galaxy sign. We will pretend your business is a radio station giving away 100 prizes
during a 24-hour period to celebrate the coming summer. “Counter 1” will track the
approximate number of prizes given away as the day progresses. When all prizes have been
given away, a message named “HOT” runs on the signs.

“Counter 2” is a timer that counts down to the first day of summer (June 21) from the start date
of April 3. When timer reaches the end time, the sign will temporarily blank, then the message
“Waves” from the “Summer” library runs.

From the main Venus 1500 software screen, select Timers from the Edit pull-down menu.

1. Click on

or select New from the File pull-down menu.

2. Select a Galaxy sign type, and then click

on [

NEXT>>>

].

3. Select the name of the library to contain

the file. For this example, the library
named “Summer” will be used. Click on
[

NEXT>>>

].

4. When the Save As dialog box appears,

enter “Countdown to Summer” as the File
Name
. Click on [

SAVE

]. You are returned

to the V15Timer main editor. The name
of the file appears at the top of the dialog
box.

To setup Counter 1:

1. Select Counter 1. A dot appears

next to the name to indicate it has
been selected. Be sure
[

COUNTER

] is selected.

2. The RTD Base Offset must

match that in the Venus 1500
software. In this example, the
offset is “1.”

3. The counter will be Right

Justified.

4. The counter is tracking 100 prizes to be given away over a 24-hour period. Therefore the

Start number is zero (no prizes given away), and the End value is 100 (all prizes given
away).

5. To give away 100 prizes during 24 hours, 1 prize must be given away every 14.4 minutes

(864 seconds). Enter “1” as the Increment Value, and “864” as the Count Interval.
