Starting a Local
Management
Session
To start a local management session, perform the following procedure:
1. Connect one end of a straight-through RS-232 cable with a DB-9
connector to the RS-232 terminal port. See Figure 2.

2. Connect the other end of the cable to an RS-232 port on a terminal or
PC with a terminal emulator program.
3. Configure the terminal or terminal emulator program as follows:
❑ Baud rate: 9600 bps (default)
❑ Data bits: 8
❑ Parity: None
❑ Stop bits: 1
❑ Flow control: None
Note
The port settings provided are for a DEC VT100 or ANSI terminal, or
an equivalent terminal emulator program.
4. Press the Return key twice.
5. You are prompted to input a login id and password.
